Lost and Damage Luggage Coverage (AMEX Benefits)

Almost everyone has experienced standing around the baggage carousel waiting for their bags until it is clear that they aren't there and won't be coming out. This usually happens after a bunch of other hassles have already occurred, like having your flight canceled or switched at the last minute.

American Express offers many benefits to their card holders. One of the helpful benefits they offer their customers is coverage for lost, stolen, or damaged baggage. The coverage is fairly comprehensive and can help reduce some of the frustration that is associated with missing luggage.

Lost Luggage

Perhaps one of the most frustrating events that can occur when you finally reach your destination after a long day of traveling is to not be able to find your luggage on the carousel. When this happens, we usually turn hopefully to the line of unclaimed bags waiting against the wall. When it's clear the luggage is not there, our only recourse is to stand in line and meet with the friendly clerk in the lost baggage office at the airport. Unfortunately, all she can do is take down some information and promise to contact us when the bags turn up.

If the luggage never does turn up, eligible American Express card holders can file a claim to have the cost reimbursed up to the limit of the insurance. This coverage is provided for card holders' family members as well. If the luggage is delayed for more than 3 hours, a claim can be filed to receive a small amount for replacement emergency items.

Damaged Luggage

If your luggage turns up at the airport and has been damaged, American Express can cover you. Simply file a claim and they will help you determine the amount you can be reimbursed for the damaged luggage. This is also subject to policy limits and underwriting.

Stolen Luggage

This insurance actually covers your baggage from the time you leave your house until you return home. The only catch is that after leaving the house, you must be traveling straight to the airport, and from the airport straight to the hotel. The luggage is covered during the trip and during your hotel stay. If your bags become stolen anywhere along the way, you are eligible to file a claim through American Express.

This coverage will help you to replace important items that were lost in your stolen baggage. You'll be able to be reimbursed by American Express and receive help along the way with your claim. This coverage also includes loss or theft of cameras or jewelry in your stolen luggage. Before traveling, however, it is a good idea to check the terms and conditions to make sure you understand how the policy works and what the exclusions are.

Nobody wants to deal with the hassle of losing their luggage, or having it stolen, or damaged. Traveling can be stressful enough without having to deal with that too. Fortunately, American Express can provide coverage that will reimburse you if your luggage does become lost, stolen, or damaged.
